What is a Sporadical?
A sporadical
is an irregularly published periodical. In the current information environment,
information has become cheap and quickly accumulates as information
garbage. When a journal must be published at regular intervals much
of the information published is unnecessary and often redundant. More
importantly, each article and blurb remains forever separated from other
articles and blurbs. You the reader could collect and sort the information
of value, but who has the time? The sporadical, which will not be published
in paper, will sift and sort the published information gradually creating
a "method-of-methods" in cyberspace.
What
is a Method-of-Methods?
Methods of instruction tend to become exclusive.
They are valuable because they offer organized information enabling
teachers and students to proceed along a tested path of development.
Their limitation is their tendency to exclude information not embraced
by the particular method. Methods, like nations, become self-protective.
Cyberspace offers the opportunity to develop a living and evolving database
of available information. What is needed is an open system, a method-of-methods,
which sifts information as it becomes available and organizes it for
use by students, professional performing musicians and teachers. The
"methodology" is the value system which determines whether
incoming information is useful or garbage, and the hierarchical structure
of the database which facilitates the search for information. It will
be the first task of The Musician's Practice Sporadical to articulate
the value system for sifting information and the database structure
that expresses it.
When will
the first issue appear?
The first issue will appear during 2003. At
the time of the first issue, the first edition of The Method-of-Methods
Database will be in place.
How will the Sporadical
